About DooWop

DooWop is vocal-based style of rhythm and blues music that developed in African American communities in the 1940s and achieved mainstream popularity in the 1950s and early 1960s. It emerged from New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, Baltimore or Pittsburgh. As a musical genre, Doo-wop is a type of vocal group harmony with the musical qualities of many vocal parts, nonsense syllables, a simple beat, little or no instrumentation, and simple music and lyrics. It is ensemble singing with single artists appearing with a backing group. In 40s you could have meet groups of singers on the streets, singing songs while using only their own vocals. This soft, silky style was one of the most famous pop-R&B oriented styles of the 50s and 60s.

Dion & The Belmonts, The Cadillacs, The Drifters, The Platters, Frank Zappa And The Mothers Of Invention and further were inspired by this genre.

Let´s say that Dum Doobie Doobie Band froze in 50s and 60s and plays the songs of these times, exclusively. Into our repertoire we insert not only the most famous songs of this period, but also less known songs that are typical for this genre.
